Lunae Duo goes beyond playing music together: we want to innovate. Starting from being an apparently simple flute duo, our project aims toward a better future where we use our knowledge as professional musicians and educate both the public and other professional musicians within the classical music community.
Collecting an immense repertoire of compositions, especially written by female composers, we want to create a new safe space where we play and record music that would be otherwise forgotten. We believe it is incredibly important for the musicians to make a stand in the otherwise standardized music world: by breaking old traditions and subsequently creating new ones.
Only with the enrichment of the classical repertoire in mind, we strive for creating a series of concerts and thus a recording of an album, making it accessible for future audiences and musicians to take inspiration from the results of our project. One must therefore take initiative making it possible to embrace the idea of a more inclusive future within the music field.
We are currently working on the assembly of our first album while also working on a summer tour that will take place at least three different locations in Portugal. Our concerts focus mainly on repertoire for solo flute and flute duets at the moment, where we also incorporate recitation of poetry written by women. However, we are planning to collaborate with other artists, subsequently inviting more musicians, and therefore expand this project, making it more accessible to everyone and exploring different settings such as interdisciplinary collaboration with different kinds of artists.
